Roderick Crews

Experience and professionalism

My qualifications include a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from King's College, University of London, a BSc (Hons) in Physiology from the University of St Andrews, and a Diploma in Library and Information Science from the University of West London.  I am also part-qualified in chartered accountancy to the level of ACA (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) Part I and hold a Diploma in Shiatsu gained at the Namikoshi Institute in Tokyo.

The early stages of my editorial career found me, while studying martial arts in Japan, working as a TEFL teacher and, later, for a mainstream academic publisher, proofreading and rewriting English-language life-science and biomedical journals.  As a freelancer I also proofread and rewrote trade periodicals, product manuals and business & finance reports for several companies.  After returning to the UK my career profile expanded to include working on books in various non-fiction genres – mainly STM – as a proofreader and copy-editor and a freelance in the library & information science sector.

Areas of special interest include microbiology, dermatology, environmental science, and complementary medicine, as well as business & finance.

I am an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreaders (CIEP) and abide by their Code of Practice.
